How do i install barnacle-shield
You can install Barnacle-Shield in 4 easy steps:
Step 1 Scrape Off barnacles
Using a barnacle scraper, a shovel or any suitable metal tool, scrape off all barnacles, including below the water line.
Step 2 Dig clearance at base
Dig a trench around the base of the piling, at least 6" deep. This is to allow Barnacle-Shield to be inserted below ground level as boring mollusks will dig into the mud to get to your piling. Note: For ease of visualization, photos are taken at extreme low tide. In practice digging and installation may have to be done partially submerged.
NOTE: Some installers apply flexible stretch wrap on the piling before installing the outer wrap. This is a good practice to help seal the piling.
Step 3 Wrap piling
Wrap Barnacle-Shield around the piling, allowing it to touch the bottom of the the trench. Hold the wrap in place with a bungee strap, rope or suitable restraint. Place the seam of Barnacle-Shield facing inward toward the center of the dock for a more appealing view from the outside.
step 4 secure wrap
Secure Barnacle-Shield at the seam with brass screws or nails, provided. Once complete refill the trench with mud.
things to remember
You can tell where the MHT mark is by where barnacles stop forming on the dock piling. Be sure to wrap Barnacle Blocker up to at least this point. Also, be sure to allow Barnacle-Shield to extend at least 6" into the sand/ mud bottom to prevent worms from tunneling through the mud to get to your piling.
